Comparing Resveratrol and Red Grape Juice – Which Supplement is Better in Improving the Heart?

As people often hear about and realize how antioxidants are vital to one’s health, drinking red grape juice and taking Resveratrol supplement are becoming popular choices. However, which is better among the two?

Resveratrol, an antioxidant compound, occurs in the vines, roots, seeds, and stalks of certain fruits and vegetables, such as mulberries, carrots, broccoli, and peanuts. It also found with high concentrations in the skins of red grapes. Most researchers believe, although some studies are still being conducted, that this particular source of antioxidant can give numerous health benefits, such as prevention of blood clotting, protection of collagen and elastin in the skin, enhancement of blood flow, and weight loss. It also has great potential in reducing the risk of blood vessel, heart, and liver diseases and certain cancers.

While red grapes are rich with this antioxidant, experts also recommend drinking adequate amounts of its juice or wine to obtain the same health benefits. In relation to the famous French Paradox – why the French people have lower incidence of heart disease in spite of an extremely high-fat diet – most studies view that drinking red wine is a possible explanation. However, because wines have a certain level of alcohol content, moderation in drinking is still required. And that makes red grape juice a better choice than wine, as you can drink as much as you can without becoming intoxicated.

Nevertheless, both juice and wine concentrations contain ample amounts of sugar, which with excess intake may increase the cholesterol level in the body. Aside from that, some commercial grape juices and wines are not as pure as homemade; therefore you always have to be very careful when choosing the right brand. Better yet, consider pure Resveratrol extracts and capsules as your daily supplement for your heart health and overall wellness.

Dave’s Killer Bread OR Ezekiel Bread, Which Is Better for You?

Has this happened to you? You got connected with a health and fitness guru and have been following their prescriptions to a better life. They have sold you on the idea of eating only carbohydrates from a good source. One of those good sources came highly recommended and you have been eating Ezekiel Bread for a while now.

You’re at the gym one day, having a great workout and making a new friend. As you chat about your eating habits, this new friend swears by Dave’s Killer Bread. Now you are wondering if perhaps you could make a better choice for your carbohydrate sources by switching to Dave’s Killer Bread. As you ponder this new thought, you hear the voice of your current health and fitness guru in your head speaking to you about how Ezekiel Bread is the only way. What do you do? Well, that is where I am able to help you. I’ve wondered the same thing myself and went about looking into the similarities and differences. I’ve made my choice and you can make yours.

Let’s take a look at what the breads have in common. They both use “all organic whole grain” sources for their ingredients and that is a great thing. They both use sea salt in the bread making process. They both offer several varieties of bread for you to chose from. You know what folks say, “variety” is the spice of life. So both breads bring that spice to you. Both brands make a multi grain bread, a whole wheat bread, and a multi seed bread. Both breads are carried in only certain stores making their availability limited. Many big chain food stores will carry either one or the other brand.

Now let’s take a look at the differences. All breads from Food For Life (manufacturers of Ezekiel Bread) use only sprouted ingredients and no flour of any kind in any bread. Dave’s Killer Breads use either cracked, crushed, cultured or rolled whole grains for their breads. So, which is better? That is debatable. It is believed that sprouted grains are more readily digested by the body. If you do have trouble digesting grains, this may be a slightly better choice for you. Beyond digestion the differences are negligible.

Food For Life offers five varieties of bread: 7 Sprouted Grain, 3 varieties of Ezekiel Sprouted Whole Grain (Flax, Low Sodium, & Sesame), and Sprouted Whole Grain&Seed. Dave’s Killer Bread offers eight varieties of bread: 21 Whole Grain, Good Seed, Power Seed, Blues Bread, Cracked Wheat, Sprouted Wheat, Good Seed Spelt, and Rockin Rye.

All of the five varieties of bread from Food For Life do not use any sugar of any kind. All of the 7 varieties of Dave’s Killer Bread use either organic dried cane syrup or organic cultured wheat (or both) as a natural preservative. For any of Dave’s breads the amount of sugar added averages 4 grams per slice. For those of you cutting carbs to get that ripped body ready for the stage, you may want to choose bread’s from Food For Life exclusively in that 12 week pre show prep time.

All of the five varieties of bread from Food For Life do not use any oil, while three varieties (Cracked Wheat, Blues, & Rockin Rye) of Dave’s Killer Bread do use a small amount of organic expeller-pressed canola oil. This small amount of oil in those two breads add a negligible amount of fat to the bread.

The final difference between the breads is the serving size. All breads from Food For Life have a standard serving size of 1 slice equal to 34 grams. All breads from Dave’s Killer Breads have a standard serving size of 1 slice and the grams vary from 42 grams to 50 grams, with the typical being 45 grams.

With all of that great information at hand which bread are you going to choose? There is one more factor to take a look at and that is the cost to purchase a loaf of bread. On average most stores that carry either of these breads will charge you just under $6.00 for a loaf of bread. That is on the high side as far as breads go.

For me, this is the major factor in my choice. Both bread companies make a comparable good carb source bread. My local Costco store carries a few varieties of Dave’s Killer Bread and because they can make a large bulk purchase they also offer the least expensive pricing for a loaf of bread. On average I pay about $3.75 for a loaf of Dave’s Killer Bread. So for now, I’m a Dave’s Killer Bread fan.

Which Is The Healthiest Meat We Can Eat?

Not all types of meat displays the same benefits, while not all animal food is of the same quality. Regarding the variety of choices, it can definitely be said that every category has its own unique taste and special properties. Generally meat can be divided in two categories: white and red. White meat, encompassing chicken, turkey, fish is usually considered lean meat; whereas, on average red meat serves for more protein and fat rich sources.

Poultry is well known for its content of iron, zinc and vitamin B12. Moreover, chicken and turkey are two of the fatless meats and, therefore recommended in most weight loss or illness recovery diets. Likewise seafood and especially fish are light food sources. Salt water fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acid, which modern medicine considers being largely beneficial for the optimal heart function.

Red meat largely varies per type. Beef is valued greatly for its content of mono-saturated fat (similar to the fat found in fish and olive oil) which lowers down the bad cholesterol (LDL)and increases the level of the good one (HDL), while improving the circulation of blood and the functioning of the nervous system. Lamb and mutton are widely considered unhealthy meat because of the numerous fatty acids it contains, yet out of this range, many are beneficial for us.

Although prohibited by some religions (like Judaism and Islam), pork is extensively eaten all around the world. Whether cooked (roast), cured (in processed products like ham, sausages) or smoked (bacon, gammon), pork is generally considered one of the tastiest and most affordable meat types. Still, though affluent in proteins, pork can also be harmful when used excessively (as it increases LDL levels, adds to body fat, hindering body oxygenation). All in all, for making the most of the benefits that animal food sources provide and, also for enjoying the most of your meals, it is preferable to diversify your intake of meat.

Of primary significance is the supply of meat. Naturally fed and raised animal provide a greatly better source of vitamins, minerals and proteins than those from factory farming. The poultry, cattle, pigs, lambs, etc grown in boxes, on artificial light and food, nursed with antibiotics and growing hormones do not only denote an inhumane practice in treating inferior beings, but foremost hazardous food resources for men. Therefore, do not buy your meat from the closest grocery store, but choose carefully your butcher. If you don’t already have one, you can always trust in the quality and time honored methods of butchers online for enjoying the wonderful taste of first class meat, while benefiting from all its real nutrients.

Alcachofa (Artichoke), African Mango, or Bitter Orange: Which Is the Best for Weight Loss?

There's been an increasing demand for natural products. Not only do people want their foods to be made with all-natural ingredients, they also want natural ingredients in their skin care and dietary supplements. There have been many weight loss supplements that are based on natural ingredients, but there are quite a few out there so naturally, questions arise. Do they really work? And which one works best? Here we will dive into the science behind three of these natural ingredients to find out the difference between them: Alcachofa (Artichoke), African Mango, and Bitter Orange.

When people think about losing weight, they think of a few things: 1) eating less, 2) eating healthy, and 3) exercising. It seems that intuitively, they understand that how much you eat, what you eat, and how active you are all go into achieving your desired weight goal. The basic premise here concerns calories in that losing weight is a game of trying to eat less calories than your body burns. This premise is true, but did you know that water also plays its part in our weight and size? For various reasons, our bodies will retain excess water, which can cause bloating and thus increase our size. On top of that, water is heavy and so it makes us weight more as well. So losing weight not only concerns eating less calories than you burn, but it also includes removing the excess water from your body.

Alcachofa (Artichoke) is one of the world's natural diuretics. As a diuretic, it helps the body flush out the extra water that is retained in the body that increases our size and weight. By removing the excess water from our bodies, the result is that we see more instant results in weight loss in both pounds and inches. Using Alcachofa in supplements by itself is a method one can use in order to lose inches fast. The downside of use Alcachofa supplements by itself is that once the excess water is completely flushed out, it won't help you lose anymore weight because since your extra water has already been removed, you now have to lose fat. Alcachofa supplements don't help you lose fat. So if you are looking for a way to lose inches fast, Alcachofa supplements are right for you, but once you've lost all the excess water, you'll have to find another way to lose even more weight.

African Mango supplements contain extract from the bark of the African Mango tree. This ingredient doesn't affect your body's water retention, but it does help you lose weight in the "eat less calories, burn more calories" department, on both ends! Firstly, African Mango supplements help reduce your appetite, so you feel less hungry and you will eat less throughout the day. Eat less calories? Check! And on the other end of the equation, African Mango supplements causes your body to burn more calories throughout the day too. Burn more calories? Check! Since it both helps you eat less and helps your body burn more calories, African Mango supplements are an all-around effective way of losing fat. In fact, it has been used for a long time in the bodybuilding community.

Bitter Orange supplements also don't affect water retention, but similar to African Mango supplements, they do help you suppress your appetite, so you eat less calories than you would normally and thus making dieting easier to withstand. Bitter Orange supplements, however, don't help you body burn more calories … but they do directly burn fat! So rather than helping your body burn more calories like African Mango supplements, they specifically target body fat and helps your body burn it off. It's debatable whether burning more calories or burning fat is more effective at weight loss, but burning fat is definitely not a bad thing!

With so many ways to lose weight, no wonder there are so many different plant extracts that can help in achieving weight goals! To choose the best one for you, it's good to know how they work. Alcachofa (Artichoke) is great for losing water weight fast, but not for fat loss. African Mango and Bitter Orange don't work in the water weight department, but are great for fat loss. African Mango helps you burn more calories, and Bitter Orange helps burn fat, while both help reduce appetite. And if you want to target weight loss in as many ways as possible in both the short term and the long term, all you need to do is take all three and you will lose the water weight quickly while eating less, burning more calories, and burning fat.

Which Are The Best Vitamin Supplements? – Liquid Or Solid

When a person is looking into the choices related to, there are many topics they must address, prior to engaging into a standard routine. The first problem to tackle could be found in the boundaries of your diet and the nutrients you’re regularly introducing into your body.

When a healthy diet covers a number of particular nutrient requirements, sometimes there is no reason for an individual to invest in a supplement that provides the same nutrients which are already being supported. However, what you must evaluate is whether you would profit from a multivitamin supplement as a every day top up for your body’s needs in order for it to run in tip top condition, or if it may be beneficial just to supplement during times of stress and illness. A good multivitamin formula could benefit any kind of diet, provided the right one is chosen. One topic which has recently begun to grow in popularity, relates to whether it is better to consume solid or liquid.

So as to properly understand this debate, its essential to look into the pros and cons of each of these options.

In support of liquid is the fluid solution of vitamins. This enables the body to easily absorb the available nutrients as they’re essentially already broken down. The body could sometimes have difficulty in trying to breakdown nutrients when they are in a solid form; therefore liquid nutrients are a better choice if you think this may pose a problem for you.

It is worth nothing though, that liquid can sometimes be hard for the body to absorb. Many of the nutrient absorption occurs in the small intestine and the liquid form could be immensely deteriorated simply by passing through the acids of the stomach. Solid state have a protective coating which assist to conserve most of the nutrients as they pass through the stomach acids and into the small intestine.

Another problem which is found with liquid refers to the shelf life. A person could buy one bottle of solid vitamin supplements with hundreds of pills because they have a longer shelf life in solid form. With liquid vitamin supplements, the nutrients begin to breakdown overtime, requiring the bottle size to be decreased and the purchase of these vitamins bought at an increased rate.

For the budget conscious person, the solid vitamin supplement often provides the best in terms of value for cash. Additionally, the liquid vitamin supplement cannot contain the enzymes which boost nutrient absorption like a solid vitamin supplement can, as the liquid form deteriorates at an incredibly paced rate.

We Are A Society Which Likes Apportion Blame, Who Do You Blame For the State Of Your Health?

In today’s society it is common place to look for someone to blame when something goes wrong; to point the finger and lay the responsibility at the door of someone else. After all, if they had done their job properly everything would have been fine, wouldn’t it?

We even do this in relationships, the bad things that happen are always the fault of the other party or because of some outside circumstances, we never really want to take responsibility for our own actions and reactions to situations and circumstances.

It is the same with our health, weight and obesity! The blame is being laid heavily at the door of the food industry, the diet industry, the government, education in schools, the health care service…

… the list goes on!!

In reality, however, whilst the actions of those bodies do have a heavy impact on us as individuals, blaming them for our individual situation is futile.

The truth is that blame is not the issue here; the real issue is responsibility. Blaming oneself for the state of our health can be incredibly detrimental as that can make us feel inadequate, desperate and incapable. Choosing to take responsibility and to decide to make changes for ourselves, regardless of outside influences, is empowering, constructive and uplifting!

You cannot afford to wait until the Government and the food and diet industry get their act together and stop producing poor quality food at cheap prices. Blaming THEM will not make YOU miraculously more healthy!!

YOU have to decide for yourself and choose to change your lifestyle and your diet! It doesn’t have to be as difficult as it may first seem.

The choices YOU make not only affect YOU but everyone around YOU and they also affect future generations of your family!! Blaming others (or yourself) will not change what YOU do and what happens to YOU, YOU will simply become another statistic!!

There may be confusing information out there about which diet is best and what type of exercise is best but what is not confusing is that convenience food and a lack of fruit, veg and wholefoods makes YOU sick and overweight!!

YOU can decide today to stand up and fly in the face of the norm and make a difference in your own life!

There may be huge changes required from the Government and other bodies in order to help to stop this rot spreading any further but what they will do tomorrow will not help YOU today!!

There may be evidence that junk food and sugar is addictive but YOU do have the ability to learn to make better choices!!

A bag of apples is not more expensive than the multi-pack of crisps YOU always buy! Water is not more expensive than the bottles of cola or juice that YOU buy!

It may cost to go to the gym or the local swimming pool but walking is free and is available to everyone, including YOU!!

YOU really do have choices, your life is in your hands and you owe it to yourself to make the best of it.

Whether you believe in reincarnation or you think we are only here once, we only get to live this particular life once so we may as well make it count and make the best life that we can.

When you stop blaming others and give the power back to yourself you will begin to feel amazing, about yourself and about your life!!

YOU are worth so much more, you just have decide that you are!!

The Basics Of The Ketogenic Diet: Which Diet Menu Plan Is Best For You

Are you a meat lover but need to lose weight? Then you might find yourself in a dilemma as most diets out there limit the intake of meat and other fatty food products because of high fat content and calories as well. With that said, people who need to lose weight no longer have to be contented with eating carrot sticks or lettuce as one can now enjoy their favorite bacon and egg while still losing weight. The ketogenic diet, which once served as an epileptic prevention meal plan, is now being used by people who need to shed excess weight. There are 2 types the “long chain triglycerides” (LCT) and the medium chain triglycerides (MCT).

Ketogenic Diet Overview

In a normal diet, humans need to consume higher amounts of carbohydrates as this acts as energy source for the body to be able to function well and less of fat as fats are only stored in the body as a reserve for when the body needs more fuel. As the body needs more carbohydrates, it processes the food group first and thus one feels hungry after a while which is not so in the case of breaking down meals that are high in fat content.

In the ketogenic diet, this theory is reversed. One will need to consume higher amount of fats and trick the body into realizing that it has insufficient amount of glucose so that it would breakdown the fats first and convert these into energy. The first diet which is the LCT deals with high fat – low carbohydrates with adequate protein. Calories are restricted and fluid intake may be taken into consideration as well. The strict diet usually makes use of strict meal plans taking into consideration the dieter’s calorie and protein needs per day. These are then divided into several meals for the day which are designed by dietitians.

In the Medium or MCT diet, the meal plans are less strict and structured especially when it comes to the calorie prescription; however, dieters should stick to the meal plan and make the necessary substitute as needed. Unlike the LCT which makes use of complex fats, the MCT makes use of fats that have higher ketones, the most popular of the use of coconut oil. Some dieters develop intolerance with the MCT diet; as such, dietitians make use of the John Radcliffe diet. The John Radcliffe diet is a combination of LCT (30%) and MCT (30%) ration with the rest coming from protein and carbohydrates.
